Safety Through Aerial Robotics

The   DroneSensor   Series utilizes all-weather commercial heavy-lift UAVs with industrial-grade material designed for ease of use and quick deployment for radiation and chemical detection. The all-carbon-fiber frame construction gives the copter strength while making it incredibly lightweight. These UAVs are manufactured in a   NATO   country thus satisfying various U.S. government agencies’ security concerns. The commercial-grade brushless motors are highly efficient robust and offer hundreds of hours of worry-free flying. The  DroneRad  NEO is an octocopter with eight engines for redundancy and the ZOE quadcopter both have a folding frame for easy transporting. Other features include GPS position hold, automatic return to home, intelligent flight modes, and optional waypoint capability. All components are housed in a weatherproof canopy and both UVs are capable of flying in wind, rain, and snow. Wireless video downlink and flight telemetry overlay provid...

Determining the Source of Stream Toxins with Continuous Monitoring

Determining Stream Toxins with Water Quality and Level Data When researcher Wesley Gerrin gained access to a sediment toxicity lab in the Experimental Forest on the University of Georgia campus, he wanted to investigate an on-campus lake for any potential contamination issues. After his research was completed, he was fortunate enough to have some extra grant funding for the addition of a few samples from any location on campus, so he chose one of the most exciting sites on the University premises: Tanyard Branch. As Wesley said, “We ran the tests, and everything looked good, except for Tanyard Branch.” Tanyard Branch has been one of the most heavily monitored creeks in the Athens-Clarke County area for the last couple of decades due to contamination - it has a long history of abuse beginning in the 1700s. Native Americans long used the area as hunting and fishing grounds, but it was eventually seized by colonists. The people who then settled into the area opened botanical gard...

New Advances in Special Drilling Devices for Space Surveying & Mining Missions to the Moon and Beyond

Los Angeles, CA.  August 23, 2021 – On August 15, 2021, US  Nuclear’s  (OTCQB: UCLE) partner Adam Jan Zwierzyński of Solar System Resources published a report on his research, prototyping, and testing of space drilling and extraction systems with the goal of developing fully autonomous mining robots for mining high-value minerals and elements from the moon, Mars, comets, and asteroids. The paper was published in ‘Energies’ journal and was written by  Adam Jan  Zwierzyński , Wojciech Teper, Rafał Wiśniowski, Andrzej Gonet, Tomasz Buratowski, Tadeusz Uhl, and Karol Seweryn. It was a collaboration between the Department of Drilling and Geoengineering at AGH University of Science and Technology and the Space Research Centre of the Polish Academy of Sciences. It discusses the dire global climate crisis and the need for ecological sources of energy and mining methods that could solve the problems before it is too late. Space is becoming a new area of possible d...

Detecting Radiological, Biological and Chemical Threats with Drones

We’ve talked about the dull, dirty and dangerous jobs that drones are performing these days, but capabilities are now about so much more than making a task simpler or easier. UAVs can be utilized to detect radiological, biological and chemical threats to ensure the safety of countless people. Developments in this area are coming from places you might expect, and even from some you wouldn’t. FlyCam UAV is a company known for capturing the amazing aerial images and video utilized in countless film and television productions, but their partnership with the US Nuclear Corp has allowed them to make an impact from the sky in a much different way. FlyCam UAV has launched the Cypher 6 and the NEO, which are designed for use with US Nuclear Corp's DroneRad aerial radiation detection system. DroneRad detects particles that contain radiation, and the UAVs can be used to provide data around where these chemicals might be present in various situations and circumstances. Full details are availab...

Detecting Radiation

Although many radioactive materials are silver-colored, metallic solids in their pure state, they can vary in color and exist in different physical states, including liquids and gases. They are also physically indistinguishable from other (nonradioactive) metals. In addition, ionizing radiation is not detectable by one's senses. It cannot be seen, heard, smelled, tasted, or felt. For these reasons, simple visual inspection is insufficient to identify radioactive materials, and radiation sources can be virtually impossible to recognize without special markings. To address these problems, scientists have developed the following four major types of instruments to detect and identify radioactive materials and ionizing radiation: Personal Radiation Detector (PRD) Handheld Survey Meter Radiation Isotope Identification Device (RIID) Radiation Portal Monitor (RPM) Personal Radiation Detector (PRD) A PRD is a wearable gamma and/or neutron radiation detector, approximately the size of a page...

HYDROFRACKING & WATER

What is the cost in contaminating our water? By Penelope Randall, Environmental Specialist, US Nuclear Corp Hydrofracking demands for water use is up 770 percent since 2011 according to a 2018 peer reviewed study out of Duke University. The use of millions of gallons of water and sand infused with up to 1,000 different toxic chemicals is used to fracture shale rock and release the trapped gas or oil. The wastewater, brine , and sludge are then returned to the surface and in need of disposal. Unfortunately, there is not yet a clear and safe method of disposal or storage. In many places this wastewater is reinjected into deep underground wastewater wells. There is mounting evidence that this method of disposal may be responsible for earthquakes and pollution of groundwater in some locations. The exponential growth of the hydrofracking industry and its practices constitutes a growing problem. Among these chemicals are radioactive isotopes which wastewater treatment plants...
